If you've been searching for an online business opportunity, or you're already established in some type of multi-level, direct sales, and/or network marketing business, you probably know that some of them are NOT all they're hyped up to be. There's plenty of hype to go around. I know this to be true - over the years I've been involved with several myself. But in reality, it's not entirely up to the company, now is it? I'll cover more of that in just a bit, but I want to share with you what I have found to be the best 7 tips that I've used to find the RIGHT business. And I know this will help you if you plan to have a future with ANY business.
Since there are literally thousands of choices available when it comes to businesses, it's always a nice idea to know what you're getting into ahead of time. Some businesses require a large up-front investment just to get going; if you're a little uneasy about forking over the cash before you know the full details, then it's time to do some research.
Tip #1 - How Long Has The Company Been In Business?
Are you asking this question? While a lot of people love the idea of getting on board with a 'ground floor' opportunity, in reality it's probably not the best idea. There are many opportunities that fail every single year. Why waste time, putting out your effort, to build a company on something that might ultimately meet its demise? I would suggest that a minimum requirement for any business would be that it's been in business at least five years. This doesn't guarantee a thing, but the chances for survival are far greater.
Besides, what's it going to hurt to wait a while? Getting in on a 'ground floor opportunity' doesn't necessarily give you any real advantage, especially with a network marketing opportunity, since the bulk of your success is dependent on YOU.
Tip #2 - Is the product or service unique?
Does this look like a copycat company? We get used to recurring themes as they show up in business, entertainment, etc. For example, you'll see a movie about a particular subject, and then sure enough every other studio in Hollywood copies that theme and makes their own version. Nothing ever seems to sell quite like the original.
It's usually the same in business - nothing is quite like the original...and typically not as profitable. If you're looking for 'the' opportunity, you'll want to find something that's original, but not too out of the ordinary. Something that immediately seems to make sense on its own, but that you'd think, "wow, I should have thought of that!"
Tip #3 - Is There A Need For The Product?
Lots of times when you come across a new opportunity, service or product, it's what most would consider to be a luxury expense, and not necessarily something that's needed. Time-shares, silver and gold coins, juices, exercise enhancers, and the list goes on - these are ideas that look good in the beginning, but unless you start making money with the opportunity (and fast!) the expenses and the idea itself may become burdensome just as fast.
For the best success in any business it'll be a good idea to pick one that offers a product or service that adds decent value, that you can use often, and that can sell itself as being useful and needed. A great test is to see if there's already cash in your budget for something that you utilize, that can be diverted to the product or service.
Tip #4 - Is The Product Or Service Trendy (A Fad)?
Is it a new craze or just new to the market? Going back to what I touched on earlier, something with some originality would be a better option. Again, not too unique, which may seem peculiar or just plain odd, but something that you don't see going away anytime soon.
Tip #5 - Can You Generate Immediate Income With The Opportunity?
This is really getting to the heart of the matter, now isn't it? We all want to be able to make lost of cash, but with some opportunities it takes some real momentum before you'll see any ROI. High ticket products are great for commission-based earnings, but understand the sales will generally be fewer and farther between - unless you have an great sales experience advantage, then you may have it easier than the rest of us.
Getting a near immediate return is tantamount for the success of any new distributor. Who wants to drag it out for years? One way to do this is to find a product or service (that makes sense ) and that has a nice, mid-levelprice. By that I mean maybe $100-$250 to get started. This will usually provide enough of a commission to you, based on the business's pay plan, to have it quickly pick up momentum and cover your costs while you're at it.
Tip #6 - Is There Leadership In Place That's Committed To YOUR Success?
Do you plan to approach it alone? I certainly hope not. Maybe a friend introduced you to the opportunity or maybe you stumbled across it on your own. At any rate, your preferred choice is going to be to find someone who is successful with the opportunity and choose to come aboard with them and learn what they're doing. Look for someone who can offer a training system or at least point you in the right direction.
The alternate side of this, of course, is that your success is literally dependent on YOU, and not someone else. Once you make that decision, the rest will work itself out. But it helps tremendously to have a guide that can encourage you. I remember the day I made the decision that I was going to be successful, and it began to change the way I tackled things. It added confidence to my efforts. Once I got connected to a training system, it only magnified the momentum I had already attainted.
Tip #7 - Does It Look Like Something That's FUN?
Don't you want to be involved with something you really enjoy? It may be an afterthought for most, but think about it: are you planning on having fun with your business? Are you going to approach your opportunity with an intentional, upbeat attitude? When I used to consider a home based business or a network marketing opportunity, I often thought of it from the perspective of being just another 9-5-er. Well, it can be if you want, but believe me if you take charge of it, and add your individuality to the mix, you can actually make it gratifying!
So in the future when you're taking into account a business opportunity, give some thought to these tips here and put some research into the company that you're thinking about joining up with. It will go a long way toward making the choice much easier!
